Through our close collaboration with Nini-Herburg Roses, we are helping them find the right candidate for this role!

Where craftsmanship meets adventure

At Nini-Herburg Roses, we proudly grow the finest roses every day at our farms in Kenya and Ethiopia. Our ambition is clear: deliver top quality, produce sustainably and keep innovating. To make that happen, we’re looking for a Cultivation Specialist who can raise our crop quality to the next level.

You’ll be responsible for production and cultivation across both locations, splitting your time between Kenya and Ethiopia. It’s a challenging, versatile role for someone with a sharp eye for quality, a passion for crop growth and a genuine knack for leading people.

What you’ll do as our Cultivation Specialist

  • Early mornings, as the sun rises over the greenhouses, you take your first walk through the crop. You assess plant health, speak with the crop managers and supervisors and immediately see where attention is needed. A bit more nutrition here, a tweak to the irrigation schedule there—you know exactly what the crop requires.
  • Mid-morning you dive into the numbers. You check production results, compare them with forecasts and discuss improvements with your team. Your afternoon is split between the greenhouse and your laptop: adjusting plans, aligning with Sales on forecasts or setting up a new trial using biological crop protection.

Working in Africa means working where nature sets the rules. There’s no heating or artificial lighting—you work with sun, wind and rain. That demands adaptability, insight and creativity. Sometimes everything runs perfectly; sometimes climate or logistics throw a spanner in the works. That’s the challenge—and the appeal. You find solutions where others would stop.

  • You are responsible for achieving production targets, improving quality and further developing a sustainable cultivation strategy.
  • You think ahead, spot opportunities for innovation and actively contribute to our goals, including chemical-free cultivation.

“At the end of the day, when the farm grows quiet, you take one last walk through the greenhouses. The sun is setting, it’s peaceful—and you might spot a giraffe or a couple of zebras near the fence. Those are the moments you feel why you do this work.”
Philippe, Managing Director Nini-Herburg Roses

Who you are as a Cultivation Specialist

You’re a true cultivation enthusiast-someone who loves being in the greenhouse and keeps oversight of complex production processes.

You bring:

  • Bachelor’s level working and thinking skills, preferably in horticulture or agronomy;
  • Solid experience with crop protection and cultivation optimisation, ideally in Africa or a comparable environment;
  • A hands-on mindset, analytical strength and attention to detail;
  • Leadership qualities: you coach, motivate and hold people accountable;
  • Strong communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus);
  • Willingness to live in Kenya (or Ethiopia) and travel regularly between both locations.

You’ll have plenty of freedom in how you organise your work-together with the responsibility that comes with it. On average, you’ll work a bit more than full-time, split between greenhouse, office and meetings.

What we offer

  • An attractive, experience-based salary. We’re happy to discuss details early in the process.
  • Real impact: at Nini-Herburg Roses you directly contribute to the quality and sustainability of millions of roses.
  • Working in the heart of nature: an environment that is both challenging and breathtakingly beautiful.
  • Room for innovation: from biological crop protection to new cultivation techniques—your ideas get the space to flourish.
  • Growing together: you’re part of the international management team, working closely with colleagues in Kenya, Ethiopia and the Netherlands, and reporting directly to the Group’s Managing Director.

Freedom and trust: in this role you set the course, with ample room to showcase your expertise and leadership.
